Clinical research

Beyond simply providing healthcare, Ramsay Santé is also committed to improving it.
Since 2013, the Department for Research and Education (DRE) has been promoting the development of new therapy and diagnosis strategies for patients.

Department for Research and Education

The DRE supports and encourages everyone in the Group who wants to contribute to advancing medicine.

Our goal

  • For medicine, because each new clinical trial today hopes to hold the key to the innovations of tomorrow.
  • For patients, who find hope in research.
  • For every one of us, who is proud of our work and the medical excellence we collectively embody.

3 activities

To ensure practitioners in the Ramsay Santé Group are leaders in the field of innovation and research:

  1. Streamline the management of clinical trials and studies within Ramsay Santé facilities
  2. Promote the medical teams’ areas of expertise and support scientific publications.
  3. Develop partnerships with institutional and industrial sponsors

Identify innovation ahead of time

By focusing our lines of research on medical economics and medical devices and on optimising healthcare, Ramsay Santé has positioned itself in a sector where the needs and requirements are great yet the resources are often lacking. The disciplines most affected are cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics and urology-nephrology, to name but a few. Through these lines of research, Ramsay Santé is able to identify the development of medical and biomedical innovations ahead of time. We can thus analyse them in terms of technical performance, effectiveness and clinical safety, as well as study the economic, ethical and organisational consequences.

Supporting researchers at every step

  1. Working alongside researchers on clinical studies from the outset

The Department for Research and Education oversees the conduct of the trial with the facility. It helps the investigators with methodology and organisation when designing projects and submitting proposals. From the start, researchers can rely on the department to:

  • Be their project sponsor for calls for proposals led by the Department of Research and Education.
  • Coordinate the process before beginning the clinical study.
  • Be the lead point of contact for the sponsor.
  • Speed up contract schedules.
  • Help with regulatory procedures
  • Centralise and analyse performance indicators, and more.
  1. Provide researchers with access to outside partners

The Department of Research and Education is in constant discussion with the biggest names in medical research to build strategic links and partnerships with industrial sponsors and institutional partners such as university hospitals, public-private hospitals, scientific societies and themed research hubs. This allows researchers to partake in projects that help promote their work.

  1. Promote research success and support scientific publications

The Department of Research and Education implements specific measures to support and promote the scientific publications of researchers: every facility in the Group is authorised by the ministry, through our Health Coordination Group (HCG) for Education and Research, to use the Sigaps* and Sigrec* inventory tools. These tools open up the option of receiving MERRI funding for producing publications and clinical trials. A proportion is given to researchers to repay them for their time.

*SIGAPS = Query System for the Management and Analysis of Scientific Publications
SIGREC = Information System for the Management of Research and Clinical Trials

Stimulate research in facilities

To stimulate clinical research conducted in France by private practitioners, Ramsay Santé created the first Private Health Coordination Group (HCG) for Education and Research in 2014, uniting all the Group’s private clinics and hospitals. Through this group, Ramsay Santé aims to benefit its patients by accelerating the implementation process of clinical trials. The group also wants to devote itself to education to help train the next generation of healthcare professionals.

“Our role is to provide all the necessary aid to ensure effective research”

Yes, it’s possible to do clinical research while working in the private sector.
At Ramsay Santé, we believe that private doctors should never give up on education, publications or clinical trials. Many of our projects are very often private-public and multicentre partnerships, as for example with AP-HP and the Hospices Civils de Lyon

Our role is to provide all the necessary aid to ensure effective research: for the methodology, data management, clinical research associates and the writing of articles. We have provided this support to almost 1,000 doctors who have published over the last 4 years.
In total, there are 450 ongoing studies across a range of specialisations. Our practitioners are so motivated that we sometimes even support what appear to be more risky projects.

“An incredible showcase of French innovation and medical expertise”

Clinical research has always been of great interest to practitioners.
By setting up the 1st HCG dedicated to research and education in private facilities, Ramsay Santé has created a unique environment to promote research development within our group. By pooling financial and human resources we have, for example, organised a French multicentre study on the results of over 10 years of placing reverse shoulder prosthesis.
A “crazy French idea” as the Americans would say. This study, which will be published in scientific journals and presented at international conferences, will be THE leading study on reverse prosthesis.

Education

Ramsay Santé is constantly working to further the transmission of knowledge:

  • Funding and support of Research fellows: 20 grants funded between 2014 and 2017;
  • Training on Best Practices in Clinical research, Pubmed® and Zotero®: 170 doctors trained in 2016 and 2017;
  • Skill sharing within our facilities;
  • Search for partner universities to pass on our skills to future doctors;
  • Support in continuing education for healthcare professionals through the development of Post-University Education projects.
